Cooperation with WHO: A Look Back

Hakim Mohammed Said was invited by the World Health Organization to participate in the Co-ordinating Meeting of Directors of W.H.O. Collaborating Centres for Traditional and indigenous systems of Medicine held at Geneva, W.H.O. Headquarters from 23rd to 27th November 1981.

In the meeting, Hakim Mohammed Said proposed the establishment of a “Traditional Medicine Fund” for the Traditional Medicine Programme.  He also suggested that the member countries of W.H.O. should be requested to donate to this Fund and announced a donation of US $ 10,000 from Hamdard Foundation to this Fund. Accordingly the amount of US $10,000 was donated to the W.H.O. in June 1982 after obtaining formal sanction from the Ministry of Finance Pakistan.

World Health Day

Annually, for the last three decades, the World Health Day is celebrated by Hamdard Foundation Pakistan with an International Children’s Health Conference. Hamdard Foundation Pakistan and its President, Sadia Rashid, have keen interest in children’s welfare which finds an effective expression in the form of health and educational facilities for children. Over the years this Children’s Health Conference has become an important feature for children to spread the gospel of good health.

Message from President HFP & WHO Representative 2025

President Dr. Mukhtiar Hussain Bhayo, Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Zeryab Setna, esteemed guests, health experts, and friends,

Welcome to the 33rd International Children’s Health Conference on World Health Day 2025. This year’s theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” aligns perfectly with our mission at Hamdard Foundation Pakistan—advocating for better health outcomes for children and mothers.

My heartfelt congratulations to our Chief Guest, Dr. Zeryab Setna, on receiving the Hilal-e-Imtiaz on March 23rd, 2025—a well-deserved honor. The World Health Organization continues to guide global efforts to improve maternal and child health. Yet, the urgency remains: each year, 300,000 women die from pregnancy-related complications, 2 million newborns don’t survive their first month, and another 2 million are stillborn. These are preventable tragedies.

Alarmingly, most countries are not on track to meet 2030 targets for maternal and newborn survival. This calls for immediate and collective action—from governments, communities, and individuals.

Today, we renew our commitment to Raising awareness about maternal and newborn health, Supporting families and healthcare professionals and Sharing vital health information for pregnancy and postnatal care.

Let us stand united to ensure every mother and child not only survives—but thrives. Together, we can create a healthier, more hopeful future.

Mrs. Sadia Rashid
President

Hamdard Foundation Pakistan

Hamdard Foundation President Sadia Rashid, distinguished guests, dear colleagues and friends,

World Health Day this year is a cause for celebration and a call to action.

More mothers and children are surviving today than ever before. Since 2000, maternal deaths have dropped by 40%, and child deaths have halved.

These gains are the result of research, investment, and dedication from health workers, scientists, public officials, partners, and civil society organizations — including many of you gathered in Karachi today.

But still, every 7 seconds, a mother or baby dies a preventable death. Each one represents a life lost too soon, and a system that failed to protect them. Too many families still face heartbreak due to lack of essential care at birth.

That’s why WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA launched the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere Partnership and the Child Survival Action Initiative — to support national and local health systems in stopping preventable deaths.

Thank you all for your commitment to the health of children in Pakistan and around the world.

I thank you.
