Cooperation with WHO: A Look Back

Hakim Mohammed Said was invited by the World Health Organization to participate in the Co-ordinating Meeting of Directors of W.H.O. Collaborating Centres for Traditional and indigenous systems of Medicine held at Geneva, W.H.O. Headquarters from 23rd to 27th November 1981.

In the meeting, Hakim Mohammed Said proposed the establishment of a “Traditional Medicine Fund” for the Traditional Medicine Programme.  He also suggested that the member countries of W.H.O. should be requested to donate to this Fund and announced a donation of US $ 10,000 from Hamdard Foundation to this Fund. Accordingly the amount of US $10,000 was donated to the W.H.O. in June 1982 after obtaining formal sanction from the Ministry of Finance Pakistan.

World Health Day

Annually, for the last three decades, the World Health Day is celebrated by Hamdard Foundation Pakistan with an International Children’s Health Conference. Hamdard Foundation Pakistan and its President, Sadia Rashid, have keen interest in children’s welfare which finds an effective expression in the form of health and educational facilities for children. Over the years this Children’s Health Conference has become an important feature for children to spread the gospel of good health.

Message from President HFP & WHO Representative

In 1948, the World HealthOrganization and Hamdard Pakistan were established, coinciding with Pakistan's 75th year in 2023. The Hamdard International Children's Health Conference, initiated by Hakim Mohammed Said, is a tradition. Let's have a moment of silent prayer for those affected by recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. This year's World Health Day theme is "Health for All," emphasizing essentials like safe water, food, shelter, hygiene, and healthcare.

The state and community must jointly provide a Primary Health Care (PHC) system for success. Basic education and a dedicated health worker force are crucial. Adequate public funds are essential to prevent corruption.

Mrs. Sadia Rashid
President
Hamdard Foundation Pakistan

On April 7th, we come together globally to celebrate World Health Day, marking the founding of the WHO. Since its inception, this day has served as a platform to raise awareness about pressing health issues and to advocate for collective action to safeguard the well-being of all individuals. WHO alongside international, regional, and local ministries and organizations, organized events centered around a specific health theme each year emphasizing the priority areas of concern.
Health is not merely a privilege but a fundamental human right, as enriched in the WHO's Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and numerous international treaties. The recognition of health as a human right is echoed in the constitutions of over 140 countries, including Pakistan.
This year, the theme of World Health Day, "My Health, My Right," underscores the universal entitlement to health for all individuals. Realizing this right necessitates the enactment of laws to ensure equitable access to health services without financial barriers and addressing the underlying determinants of health. As we confront mounting threats to global health, including diseases, disasters, conflicts, and environmental crises, we must advocate for health rights for ourselves and others. The WHO stands committed to supporting countries in integrating human rights into health systems and strengthening national health systems to ensure universal access to quality healthcare.
I extend my appreciation to the Hamdard Foundation Pakistan for their dedication to promoting a healthier population and for organizing the 32nd International Conference and commemorating World Health Day 2024. I urge each of us to play our part in advancing the health agenda. Let us raise awareness about healthy living choices, nutrition, and physical activity, recognizing health as a fundamental human right.

Message from Director General WHO Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

This year, WHO celebrates its 75th anniversary. We've made significant achievements in children's health, halving child mortality in the past 30 years due to improved care, immunization, and nutrition. However, many children still die from preventable causes, including 400,000 in Pakistan annually. We have more work to do. I'm thrilled that children and adolescents are part of this Conference. Your voices matter in finding solutions and shaping a better tomorrow. 75 years ago, nations affirmed that health is a basic human right. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to this right for children and adolescents. WHO continues to work towards a healthier, more peaceful, and sustainable future for the children of Pakistan and the world.
