Hamdard, a tibbi pharmaceutical industry was established in Pakistan in 1948 by Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said. In 1953 Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said converted Hamdard into an Islamic Trust “Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf)” devoting its income in the name of Al-mighty Allah to fulfill his dream of service to humanity.

To administer and control the welfare works of Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) separately and independently, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan was established in 1964. It has now grown into a multidimensional institution which is whole heartedly devoted to the promotion of health, education and social welfare.

The funds generated by Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) are diverted to Hamdard Foundation Pakistan for health, philanthropic and educational objectives like: -

• Free consultation and medicine, through a network of clinics and mobile dispensaries throughout major cities of Pakistan;

• Scholarships and freeships for students who merit them, either through brilliance or need;

• Establishing Madinat al-Hikmah – the city of science, education and culture – at Deh Bund Murad, on the outskirts of Karachi. This houses the Hamdard Public School, Hamdard Village School (free), Hamdard University with its many faculties and Institutes, and Bait al-Hikmah, one of Asia’s largest libraries;

• Stipends for various needy persons, such as poor widows, and grants to various national institutions;

• Publications of journals and books on subsidized rates;

• Cultural activities from the platform of Shura Hamdard and Naunehal Assembly;

Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, being a charitable organization, has been performing welfare, charitable and educational activities since its establishment in 1964. We hope that through our sincere efforts and the help/guidance of Allah, we would achieve the objectives & dreams of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said.
